Personal Totem
Understanding the significance of the totem to the tribe triggered various questions and images which formed the creative base for my personal totems. I wanted to understand how I can mirror my inner world and if the totem can be the symbolic creation through which I can tell my own personal story and my creative journey as an evolving artiest. Consequently, as part of my inner search, I decided to create a series of totems. During my work on the series I went over dozens of projects I created over the years and checked for repetitive elements in my illustrations which are the symbolic elements I am attached to, such as eyes, hearts and birds. These well-known elements, influenced by my artistic style, were the starting point for the illustration work on the totems. As the totems are three-dimensional objects, you are able to observe them from different angles that provide depth to the two dimensional illustrations. The totems I created are a gateway to my story.
